Arno Nadel was born in Vilnius in 1878, and moved to Berlin in 1895. There he was active as a cantor, and devoted much energy to collecting and publishing Jewish folk songs and cantorial music, culminating in the 7 volume Hallelujah in 1938. Nadel, Arno

Born in Vilna on October 3, 1878, Arno Nadel emigrated to Germany in 1890 and settled in Berlin in 1895. In 1916, he became choir director of the Jewish community of Berlin. He is best known for his work as a musicologist, and for his transcriptions and adaptations of Jewish traditional and liturgical music. He also worked as a poet and an artist.
